Whoever Said Starting A Blog Was “Easy” or “Fast” Lied

There I said it. I have called out the elephant in the blogosphere.  Blogging is hard, way hard actually, and time consuming. Did I mention time consuming? In no way can you get a blog up and running in 10 minutes or even an hour.  It takes HOURS and I mean like 40+ to really get a decent blog going. That doesn’t even include social media.. eek!

Get ready for the brutally honest time estimates.

Admittedly, this post is a little bit of a rant. I mean seriously, has anyone ever managed to get a full blown blog (that wasn’t migrated) with all the bells and whistles up and going in 10-15 minutes. We work HARD! That shouldn’t go unnoticed or be cheapened by saying it only takes 15 minutes to do.

The other day I was up for the 5th night in a row at 2am (when I have to get up at 630) working on this blog.  I was basically drooling over my keyboard mulling over all the shit I had left to do and just started chuckling. Gotta love being tired-drunk. Anyways, I was thinking about all the articles I’ve seen that say it takes no time at all and what BS that is. It takes a crap TON of time!

No wonder so many new bloggers just give up, it’s the misinformation. This is my THIRD attempt at blogging over the past 5 years. The first two “failed” for various reasons, not excluding the thought process that it should be going faster.

This post is in no way meant to discourage new bloggers, but more so be honest about what’s in store. Should you still start a blog even though it takes longer than a quickie during nap time? Absolutely! Blogging is amazing, you met amazing people and add a great life experience, just not a fast one.

To run/start a successful blog it takes time, well thought out decisions and a lot of research. So next time you see someone say it only takes 10-15 minutes give them the boot, a smelly boot that is.

  1. Thank you for this! I’ve just started a new blog and I think I must just really be so impatient because I feel like its going nowhere haha! But I know I’ve just got to stick to it 🙂 x

  2. Tired drunk! YES! Happens to me all the time. And there is never a day when I wake up and think “I have nothing to do on the blog today”. But there are definitely days I chose to do nothing for the sake of my sanity. Happy to hear I’m not the only one who feels like it’s never ending. -Caroline @ Swaddles n’ Bottles

  3. Love this! So many articles you google make it sound like a walk in the park and it’s very discouraging! I love how you call them out and speak truth to new bloggers and even us who have been working on blogs for months or years!

  4. This!! Thank you! I just started blogging and it is not easy! I love it, but it takes up soooo much of my time! I just reached 200 viewers, which is nothing in the blogging world, but a huge accomplishment to me! Thank you for putting this into perspective for all of us newbies!

  5. You’re right, it is time consuming. I mean to get started on it can take minutes but to actually have a theme and get all the details sorted out takes many many hours. But for me I had fun with the design part and making my blog look nicer. It’s still a work in progress.

  6. On the same page as you! I’m getting to the point where every time I see an ad for bluehost or WOW I made $1000 in my first month I want to scream.
